1.reason与cause
　　两个词作名词都有“原因”的意思。reason是对某一事件、行为或想法人为给出的理由，具有主观性，与conclusion（结论）相对，与for或从句搭配；cause是引起某种后果的原因，具有客观性，与effect（结果）相对，通常与介词of 搭配。如：
　　The reason for failure is that we belittled our opponents.
　　失败的原因是我们轻视了对手。
　　The cause of the accident is that he was driving too fast.
　　事故的起因是他开车太快。
　　
　　2.everyday与every day
　　everyday用作形容词，只用作定语，表示“每日的，日常的”。
　　every day是副词短语，作状语，表示“每天，天天”。如：
　　The everyday English should be learned by heart.
　　日常英语应该记住。
　　We speak English every day. 我们天天讲英语。
　　3.so that与so…that
　　so…that通常引导结果状语从句，可翻译为“如此……以致（因而）”，常构成如下句型：
　　so+形容词或副词+that…
　　so+形容词+a+单数可数名词+that…
　　so+many/few+复数可数名词+that…
　　so+much+不可数名词+that… 如：
　　He ran so quickly that I couldn’t catch up with him.
　　他跑得太快，以致于我赶不上他。
　　Jack is so smart a boy that he can work out difficult maths problems quickly. 杰克很聪明，因而他能很快地解出数学难题。
　　I’ve had so many falls that I’m black and blue all over.
　　我跌了这么多跤，以致于浑身青一块紫一块。
　　There is so much room in the hall that it can hold many people.
　　大厅里有很大的空间，因此能容纳很多人。
　　so that可引导目的状语从句，从句中的谓语动词通常和can, may, should等情态动词连用。另外，so that也可引导结果状语从句，意为“因此，结果”，其前通常有逗号。试比较：
　　They set out early so that they might arrive on time. （目的状语）
　　他们早早出发为的是按时到达。
　　He did not plan his time well, so that he didn’t finish the work in time. (结果状语）
　　他没有把时间计划好，结果没及时完成工作。

4.collect与gather
　　两个词都有“收集”之意。gather指把分散的东西集中在一起，例如收集庄稼、树叶、花草等；collect常指按计划或为了某个特定的目的把东西收集起来，经过仔细挑选后收集、收藏起来。试比较：
　　She gathered the papers and books together.
　　她把试卷和书籍收集在一起。
　　Students gathered all the fallen leaves and burned them.
　　学生们把树叶扫在一起然后烧了。
　　I enjoy collecting stamps. 我喜欢集邮。
　　He collected some information to write his graduate paper.
　　他收集了一些资料要写毕业论文。
